You finally made Diamond.
After enough Royal Caribbean cruises to reach 80 Cruise Points, you walk into the Crown Lounge expecting the loyalty program to start feeling genuinely different.
Then you order a drink.
“Wait—WHAT? We’re Diamond! You’re telling me the drinks in here aren’t unlimited?”
That misunderstanding captures the strange thing about Diamond status perfectly. Some benefits are genuinely valuable. Others are useful only in very specific situations. And a few sound considerably better until you read the fine print.
For sailings departing July 7, 2026 onward, Royal Caribbean’s current Crown & Anchor Society benefits grid confirms that Diamond begins at 80 Cruise Points and includes four complimentary daily drink vouchers, one free day of Surf+Stream internet, Crown Lounge access, photo and spa benefits, laundry discounts, events and other privileges. Royal Caribbean also states that benefits and terms can be modified.
So which Diamond perks actually deliver?
Here are the 18 benefits I think are worth paying attention to—and five that may disappoint.
Important: The benefits themselves below come from Royal Caribbean’s current published Crown & Anchor terms. The rankings and “worth it/disappointing” judgments are editorial opinions. Benefits can have sailing, ship, age, availability and redemption restrictions.
THE 18 DIAMOND PERKS THAT ACTUALLY DELIVER
1. Four Complimentary Drinks Every Day — ★★★★★
This is the Diamond benefit that changes the onboard experience most noticeably.
Royal Caribbean currently gives Diamond members four complimentary drink vouchers every day of the cruise.
Each covers one eligible drink up to $14, with the current cap listed as $13 on Singapore sailings and $15 on UK and Australia sailings. The vouchers can be redeemed at bars onboard and at Royal Caribbean private destinations, excluding Royal Beach Clubs, subject to exclusions including fully licensed Starbucks venues, Bionic Bar and Desserted Milkshake Bar.
Even better, you’re not locked into drinking them during a two-hour lounge window.
Use them throughout the day.
Coffee in the morning. A drink by the pool. Wine with dinner. A cocktail after the show.
The vouchers reset at 5:00 a.m. daily and expire at 4:59 a.m. the following day. They don’t roll over, and multiple vouchers can’t be combined to cover one drink above the individual voucher limit.
At a $14 ceiling, four vouchers represent up to $56 in eligible menu value per member per day. On a seven-day cruise, that’s a theoretical ceiling of $392 per member if all four vouchers are used daily at the full cap.
That’s not cash value and not a guaranteed saving—but it explains why many Diamond cruisers value this perk so highly.
Verdict: This is the star of Diamond status.
2. Crown Lounge Access — ★★★★★
Diamond members gain access to the Crown Lounge, along with Diamond Plus and Pinnacle Club members.
Royal Caribbean’s current terms describe complimentary bites throughout the day and nightly happy-hour beverage service from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
It’s a useful retreat from the busier public spaces, particularly on sea days.
But here’s the detail that causes the opening-scene misunderstanding:
Crown Lounge access does not mean unlimited complimentary alcoholic drinks.
Royal Caribbean states that daily drink vouchers must be redeemed for beverage requests in the lounge, except self-serve specialty coffee.
That’s a major distinction.
Verdict: Excellent perk—just understand what “lounge access” actually includes.
3. One Free Day of Surf+Stream Internet — ★★★★½
Diamond members currently receive one free day of Surf+Stream internet, or the equivalent price reduction against an onboard internet purchase.
It’s for one device and applies as one consecutive 24-hour period.
Used strategically, this can be excellent.
If you don’t need to be connected throughout the cruise, save your free day for when you need to catch up on messages, upload photos, check travel arrangements or deal with something important at home.
But remember:
One free day does not mean free internet for the cruise.
That distinction becomes important later.
Verdict: Valuable if you use the 24 hours wisely.
4. One Complimentary Photo — ★★★★½
Cruise photos can be one of those purchases you want but hesitate to pay for.
Diamond solves that once per sailing.
Eligible Diamond members can select one complimentary 8×10 print or digital photo from their current selection, subject to Royal Caribbean’s exclusions.
Choose carefully rather than automatically taking the first acceptable picture.
A great embarkation photo or formal-night portrait can turn this relatively simple benefit into a genuinely nice keepsake.
Verdict: Simple, tangible and easy to use.
5. 30% Off an Eligible Photo Purchase — ★★★★
Want more than the free shot?
Diamond currently receives 30% off one eligible photo, photo package or photobook transaction. The discount can’t be combined with other onboard discounts, and exclusions apply.
For passengers who routinely buy cruise photography, that’s substantially more useful than a token discount.
Verdict: Strong if your family actually buys photos.
6. 20% Off Spa or Salon Services — ★★★★
Diamond members currently receive 20% off eligible spa or salon services.
Appointment availability applies, and Medi-Spa and already-discounted services are excluded.
Spa treatments aboard a cruise ship can be expensive, so 20% is large enough to matter if you were going to book anyway.
That’s the key.
Don’t spend $150 just because you can save 20%.
But if the treatment was already in your vacation budget, this is a meaningful benefit.
Verdict: Potentially excellent; worthless if you don’t use the spa.
7. $10 Off Wash & Fold — ★★★½
Laundry becomes increasingly useful as cruises get longer.
On sailings of five nights or more, Diamond currently gets $10 off the $39.99 Wash & Fold laundry bag.
That can help on a weeklong cruise and becomes more attractive if you’re traveling before or after the sailing.
One important distinction:
Diamond does not currently get the complimentary Wash & Fold bag available to Diamond Plus and Pinnacle members.
Verdict: Useful, but don’t confuse a discount with free laundry.
8. $5 Off $25 Dry Cleaning or Pressing — ★★★
Formal night suddenly becomes more convenient when the outfit that spent hours compressed inside your suitcase needs help.
Diamond members are among the tiers receiving $5 off a $25 Dry Clean or Press service.
It’s not enormous, but unlike many abstract loyalty benefits, it’s easy to understand and use.
Verdict: Handy when you need it.
9. Two Complimentary Welcome Waters — ★★★
Emerald and Diamond adults currently receive two complimentary water bottles per person in their stateroom on arrival day. Guests must be at least 18 to qualify for this particular benefit.
Will two bottles of water transform your vacation?
No.
Will you probably use them?
Yes.
Sometimes the best loyalty perks are the boring ones you don’t have to think about.
Verdict: Small but practical.
10. Chef’s Choice Amenity — ★★★½
On sailings of five nights or longer, Diamond members qualify for the Chef’s Choice amenity.
Royal Caribbean notes that the gift and frequency of delivery can vary by ship and sailing length.
That variability makes it difficult to assign a fixed dollar value.
Still, there’s something enjoyable about returning to the cabin and finding an unexpected loyalty amenity waiting.
Verdict: Don’t chase Diamond for it—but enjoy it when it arrives.
11. Priority Main Dining Room Waitlist — ★★★½
Diamond includes priority waitlist seating requests in the Main Dining Room.
This is a classic example of a perk that doesn’t photograph well for social media but can become extremely useful when your preferred dining arrangement isn’t immediately available.
Priority isn’t the same as a guarantee.
But when dining matters to your vacation, moving higher on the waitlist has real value.
Verdict: Quietly useful.
12. Priority Waitlist for Shore Excursions and Vitality Spa Services — ★★★½
Diamond also appears in Royal Caribbean’s current benefit grid for priority waitlist access for Shore Excursions/Vitality Spa services.
Again, this isn’t guaranteed availability.
But sold-out experiences are one of the most frustrating parts of planning a cruise.
Anything that improves your position when availability changes can matter.
Verdict: Not glamorous, but potentially trip-saving.
13. Exclusive Backstage Tour — ★★★★
This is one of the more interesting experiential benefits.
Diamond, Diamond Plus and Pinnacle members can receive access to an Exclusive Backstage Tour on sailings of five nights or longer.
There is an important caveat: Royal Caribbean says the format can vary by ship and itinerary. On some ships, backstage access may not be available and the experience may instead become a Q&A or similar interaction with the entertainment team. The event can also be modified or canceled.
Still, when the full experience happens, it offers something money doesn’t always easily buy: a look behind the curtain.
Verdict: One of Diamond’s most interesting non-cash perks.
14. Exclusive Top Tier Event — ★★★
Diamond members are included in the Exclusive Top Tier Event on eligible sailings of five nights or longer, with the current grid specifying seven or more nights on Spectrum of the Seas.
Whether you’ll love this depends heavily on your personality.
Some cruisers enjoy loyalty recognition and meeting other repeat guests.
Others would rather be at the pool.
Verdict: Nice recognition, but highly subjective.
15. $6 Casino Royale FreePlay — ★★½
Yes, Diamond gets Casino Royale FreePlay.
The amount?
$6 per sailing.
Royal Caribbean states that it’s slot-machine credit on select machines, can’t be used for table games, is non-transferable and has no cash value itself, although winning credits can be cashed out. Age restrictions apply.
I’m including it among the 18 because it is a real usable benefit.
But you’ll see it again shortly.
Verdict: Free is free—but don’t get too excited.
16. Six Jackpot Bingo Cards With a Qualifying Package — ★★★
Diamond members who purchase an eligible multi-game Bingo package currently receive six free single Jackpot Bingo cards.
The benefit doesn’t apply to certain sessions, including “Win a Cruise,” “Win A Suite” and “Final Session.”
If you never play Bingo, the value is zero.
If Bingo is already part of your cruise routine, however, it’s a legitimate extra.
Verdict: Good for Bingo fans; irrelevant for everyone else.
17. 15% Off Royal Caribbean Logo Merchandise — ★★★
Diamond members currently receive 15% off qualifying Royal Caribbean logo merchandise after spending at least $25.
There are exclusions, including certain jewelry, Royal Bling, trunk-show merchandise, best buys and one-day specials.
This is another benefit where your spending habits determine its value.
Want a ship-logo hoodie anyway?
Great.
Buying one solely because it’s discounted?
That’s not saving money.
Verdict: Useful souvenir perk, not a major loyalty reward.
18. Balcony & Suite Discounts and Crown & Anchor Rates — ★★★★½
This is the benefit that shouldn’t be overlooked just because it happens before the cruise.
Royal Caribbean’s current grid includes Crown & Anchor exclusive rates and discounts on Balcony & Suite staterooms for qualifying loyalty tiers including Diamond.
Unlike a bottle of water or $6 casino credit, a favorable cabin rate can potentially affect the economics of the entire vacation.
The exact value isn’t fixed—it depends on the sailing, fare and offer available when you’re booking.
That means you shouldn’t assign a universal dollar figure to it.
But you absolutely should check it.
Verdict: Potentially one of Diamond’s biggest money-saving benefits.
NOW FOR THE 5 THAT DISAPPOINT
Here’s where we need to be fair.
I’m not saying these benefits are fake.
They are real benefits or real limitations attached to benefits.
The issue is that their practical value can fall well short of what the words initially make passengers imagine.
DISAPPOINTMENT #1: $6 CASINO FREEPLAY
There it is again.
Six dollars.
Diamond requires reaching 80 Cruise Points, yet the Casino Royale FreePlay benefit is currently $6 per sailing—the same listed amount Royal Caribbean gives Emerald, Diamond Plus and Pinnacle Club members.
For a loyalty tier that unlocks several meaningful benefits, this one feels oddly small.
If you enjoy slots, use it.
But nobody should be counting down the cruise points because they’re excited about six dollars of FreePlay.
MISS-THE-MARK VERDICT: Real perk. Tiny impact.
DISAPPOINTMENT #2: THE $2-PER-MINUTE STATEROOM PHONE RATE
Royal Caribbean’s current grid still lists a $2-per-minute stateroom phone discount rate for qualifying upper loyalty tiers including Diamond.
There are circumstances where cabin-phone functionality could be useful.
But for many modern travelers carrying smartphones and using Wi-Fi-based communications, this is hardly the perk that will make Diamond status feel elite.
MISS-THE-MARK VERDICT: Technically useful. Frequently irrelevant.
DISAPPOINTMENT #3: $5 OFF $25 DRY CLEANING OR PRESSING
We praised this earlier because it can genuinely help.
But let’s keep perspective.
You’re saving $5 on a qualifying $25 service.
That’s welcome.
It isn’t exciting.
This illustrates something important about loyalty programs: a benefit can be worth using without being worth pursuing status for.
MISS-THE-MARK VERDICT: Take the $5. Just don’t call it VIP treatment.
DISAPPOINTMENT #4: CROWN LOUNGE ACCESS HAS A CATCH
This is probably the biggest expectation trap.
Crown Lounge access is genuinely one of Diamond’s better perks.
But access isn’t necessarily unconditional.
Royal Caribbean’s current terms say Crown Lounge access is reserved for Diamond, Diamond Plus and Pinnacle Club members, but the company may limit or remove lounge access as needed on sailings with higher-than-usual member counts, including certain charters, crossings, repositionings, inaugurals, trade events and President’s Cruises.
And then there’s the drinks misunderstanding.
Happy hour runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., but Royal Caribbean says daily drink vouchers must still be redeemed for beverage requests, with self-serve specialty coffee as the stated exception.
So our frustrated Diamond passenger from the opening scene isn’t crazy for being confused.
But she would be wrong to assume:
“Crown Lounge = unlimited free cocktails.”
It doesn’t.
MISS-THE-MARK VERDICT: Great lounge benefit. Temper the VIP expectations.
DISAPPOINTMENT #5: “FREE WI-FI” MEANS ONE DAY
This benefit is both excellent and potentially disappointing.
How can it be both?
Because of expectations.
If somebody tells a new Diamond member:
“You get free Wi-Fi now!”
that person could reasonably imagine connectivity throughout the cruise.
The actual current benefit is one consecutive 24-hour period of Surf+Stream for one device, or the equivalent discount against an onboard internet purchase.
Diamond Plus receives two free days.
Pinnacle gets unlimited Surf+Stream for one device for the length of the sailing under the current grid.
So Diamond’s free day is valuable.
It’s simply smaller than “free Wi-Fi” sounds.
MISS-THE-MARK VERDICT: Use it strategically and it’s great. Expect cruise-long internet and you’ll be disappointed.
THE BIGGEST DIAMOND MYTH: “I GET UNLIMITED DRINKS IN THE CROWN LOUNGE”
Let’s kill this myth clearly.
Diamond members currently receive:
Four complimentary daily drink vouchers.
The Crown Lounge provides access, complimentary bites and the nightly happy-hour environment.
But eligible beverage requests still consume those vouchers, apart from the specified self-serve specialty coffee exception.
That’s why the vouchers themselves—not the lounge—are arguably the real star.
You can use eligible vouchers at bars around the ship instead of feeling forced to spend happy hour in one room.
For many passengers, that’s actually better than the misconception.
HOW MUCH COULD FOUR DAILY DRINK VOUCHERS REALLY BE WORTH?
Let’s use the current standard $14 cap as an example.
Four vouchers:
4 × $14 = $56
Seven cruise days:
$56 × 7 = $392
For a Diamond couple:
$392 × 2 = $784
Again, that’s a theoretical maximum eligible menu value, not cash, guaranteed savings or money Royal Caribbean owes you.
You’d have to redeem every voucher at the full eligible ceiling every day to reach it.
But the calculation shows why Diamond status can suddenly feel meaningful to cruisers who would otherwise purchase several beverages daily. The actual value will depend on what you drink, where you sail and the applicable voucher ceiling.
5 DIAMOND BENEFITS YOU SHOULD NOT EXPECT
This is where misinformation causes frustration.
First, Diamond does not receive unlimited complimentary drinks; it currently gets four daily vouchers.
Second, Diamond does not receive cruise-long free Surf+Stream; the current benefit is one free day.
Third, Diamond does not receive the complimentary Wash & Fold bag listed for Diamond Plus and Pinnacle. Diamond gets the $10 discount on eligible five-plus-night sailings.
Fourth, Diamond status alone does not grant Suite/Concierge Lounge access. Royal Caribbean’s current terms reserve that lounge for qualifying suite guests, with Pinnacle access subject to the stated conditions.
Finally, the specialty-dining benefit where one guest purchases dinner and the second receives complimentary dining on eligible first- or second-night reservations is currently listed for Diamond Plus and Pinnacle, not Diamond.
Those distinctions matter because Diamond can feel disappointing if you arrive expecting Diamond Plus benefits.
THE DIAMOND PERK MOST PEOPLE SHOULD USE FIRST
If you’re newly Diamond, don’t overcomplicate it.
Learn how the four daily drink vouchers work.
They reset at 5 a.m.
They don’t accumulate.
One voucher covers one qualifying drink up to the applicable limit.
And they’re not restricted to Crown Lounge happy hour.
For many cruisers, simply remembering to use those vouchers every day will deliver more practical value than obsessing over every minor discount on the benefits sheet.
THE MOST UNDERRATED PERK
My pick?
The free photo.
Not because it’s the most valuable in dollars.
Because it asks almost nothing from you.
You don’t have to gamble.
You don’t have to buy a spa treatment.
You don’t have to spend $25 to trigger a discount.
You don’t have to buy Bingo.
You simply find an eligible picture you like and redeem the benefit according to the current terms.
Years later, that photo may matter more to you than the $6 you played in the casino.
THE PERK WITH THE BIGGEST HIDDEN UPSIDE
The Balcony & Suite discount deserves more attention.
Passengers naturally focus on onboard freebies because they’re tangible.
Drink appears.
Water appears.
Photo appears.
But reducing the cost of a cabin you were already planning to book can potentially be far more valuable than a collection of small onboard coupons.
There’s no honest way to attach a universal dollar figure because rates vary.
That’s exactly why you should compare eligible Crown & Anchor pricing whenever you’re shopping for another Royal Caribbean cruise.
DIAMOND VS. DIAMOND PLUS: DON’T MIX THEM UP
Diamond begins at 80 Cruise Points.
Diamond Plus begins at 175.
That’s a substantial gap, and several perks people casually describe as “Diamond benefits” actually belong to Diamond Plus or higher.
Under the current July 2026-onward grid, Diamond Plus steps up to five daily drink vouchers and two free days of Surf+Stream, and it receives additional benefits that Diamond doesn’t.
So when another passenger tells you:
“I’m Diamond and I get this…”
ask whether they’re actually Diamond Plus.
One word can completely change the answer.

None of those individually makes you cruise royalty.

THE FINAL VERDICT
Royal Caribbean Diamond status has a strange personality.

The four daily drink vouchers are the clear headline benefit. Crown Lounge access remains valuable once you understand its limitations. One free day of Surf+Stream can be excellent when timed intelligently. The free photo is easy value. Spa and cabin discounts can become significant for the right passenger.
Then you have the other side.
Six dollars in casino FreePlay.
A $2-per-minute cabin-phone rate.
A modest dry-cleaning discount.

None of those makes Diamond bad.
